Creative people often love mixing different art forms to express their emotions clearly and connect with other people. Some people love to draw while listening to their favorite music. On the other hand, some serious musicians want to learn how to draw music to make their own or try to write some of their favorite tunes. If you fall into these categories, you would also want to learn how to draw music.
Learning how to draw music is important for musicians because this gives them the opportunity to accurately present their ideas and demonstrate the notes to composers and other performers. That is not all. Learning how to draw musical notes also helps with reading sheet music with utmost precision. So, let’s begin the step-by-step guide on learning to draw music notes.
Drawing musical notes -
Step 1:
The first step would be to start drawing the first symbol and that would be a beam note. It is one of the paramount symbols in musical notations. A beam note would be a diagonal or a horizontal line, connecting multiple musical notes that indicates a rhythmic grouping. In music notations, beam notes are used to group similar notes together and create a duration that is less than a quarter note.
You can start drawing a beam note by taking the left portion of the paper and drawing parallel diagonal lines on that. Then take both endpoints of the parallel diagonal line and draw a vertical line there. Make sure that all lines should be of similar length.
Step 2:
After learning how to draw a beamline, the next step would be to draw the first symbol of the beam note. To do that, you need to draw a sideways oval shape on the left side of the left vertical line that you drew previously. By doing this, you are forming the left quaver symbol of a beam note. Keep in mind that the oval shape should connect directly to the bottom of the left vertical line to create a quaver note.
Step 3:
Now it is time to take care of the right side of the vertical line. To make the note complete, repeat the same step on the right side of the vertical line. This is also similar to the previous step you performed on the left vertical line. Draw a sideways oval shape on the left side of the vertical line. Now, after completing this step, you should have two connected quaver notes. This marks the form of the first music symbol in your drawing completed.
Step 4:
This next step is all about drawing the flag of the quaver note. Now, we will move to the next symbol, a quaver note in your drawing. Below the beam line, continue to draw a vertical line. This line would be the stem of the quaver note you are about to draw. Right after doing that, on the upper side that is directly connected to the beam line, draw a diagonal rectangle shape, forming the flag of the quaver note.
Step 5:
Now, your task would be to complete the quaver note on the drawing. For this, you can simply draw another sideways oval shape at the extreme bottom left side of the stem that you drew in the previous stage. Now, you have completed the form of the quaver note in your drawing. Rejoice! You have successfully completed drawing the second symbol in your musical note!! And you are almost done. So, keep moving.
Step 6:
Now, let's move on to the third and last musical symbol of the drawing, the treble clef. Start by getting a spiral bottom endpoint and drawing a vertical line with it. This way you will be able to create the stem of the treble clef. While drawing the line, remember that these lines from the treble clef should be thicker than the other lines you have drawn to complete the other musical symbols.
Step 7:
The next step is about crafting the treble clef. Start by continuing a curved line at the top of the stem of the treble clef. While drawing this part, make sure to remember that the top part of the treble clef should be pointed and drawn accordingly.
Step 8:
The next step would be to draw the s-shaped line of the clef. Work with the previously drawn curved line, and extend the line by drawing a relatively bigger curve on the opposite side of the bottom of the stem. Here, you need to remember that the curve at the top of the stem should be on the left side facing that area. On the other hand, the curve drawn at the bottom of the stem should be facing the right side of the stem. When you draw this correctly, the entire curved line should look like the letter “S”.
Step 9:
The last step would be to complete the form of treble clef. Start by drawing a spiral beginning from the bottom endpoint of the S-shaped curve that you drew in the previous step. Now, this spiral should overlap with the stem of the treble clef. This is the step where the treble clef would be completely drawn.
You have now successfully completed drawing three of the most used symbols in a musical note. To make the drawing even more fun and exciting, add colors to the musical symbols. You can handpick a unique set of colors, that suit your color palette, and color the symbols however you like!
