Music enthusiasts have witnessed some of the most anticipated, appreciated, and memorable albums getting released and the tragic demise of some of the most shining knights of the music industry. Well, this blog will share with you the top 10 singers of 2024:
Bruno Mars
Mars is a 14-time Grammy Award winner and one of the best-selling artists of all time, having sold over 200 million singles worldwide. Bruno Mars — birth name Peter Gene Hernandez — may have come from humble beginnings, but since practically the day he appeared on the music scene, his career has had the trajectory of a rocket ship, with barely a stall along the way. He is consistently a ‘Top 10" artist, a frequent collaborator with various musical artists, and a perennial nominee for music's highest awards. Mars' first four singles all became top 10 hits — an achievement not seen from a male vocalist in 20 years.
The Weeknd
One other artist who has created a buzz in 2024 is none other than The Weeknd. His new track Sao Paolo took the internet by storm right before Halloween. And now he is set to perform at Spotify’s first-ever Billions Club Live concert in Los Angeles to celebrate having the most songs with more than one billion streams on the platform. The concert will be held exclusively for his top fans on Spotify on Tuesday 17 December, and his set list will include selections from his 24 total songs in the Billions Club such as Blinding Lights, Starboy, Die for You, The Hills and Save Your Tears. The Canadian-Ethiopian superstar (real name Abel Tesfaye) is set to release his sixth studio album, ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’, on 24 January. The record will serve as the third and final installment of his latest trilogy, following 2020’s After Hours and 2022’s Dawn FM. In October, he performed a handful of shows at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium and Sydney’s Accor Stadium in Australia. And he’ll perform a one-night-only show at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on 25 January, one day after his new album drops. The concert will feature never-before-seen production, and the stage will take over the entire floor of the stadium. The Weeknd’s most recent After Hours Til Dawn tour has been a global success, with over 60 sold-out stadium dates and more than three million attendees across North America, Europe, the UK, and Latin America.
Taylor Swift
Few artists in the history of pop music have had a year like her. The singer, who turned 35 yesterday (13th December), started off 2024 as the most prominent spectator at the Super Bowl, where Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs delivered a rom-com ending. Her blockbuster Eras Tour, showcasing 18-plus years of music over a staggering 3.5 hours, continued 2023’s run as pop’s main story overseas and became the best-selling music tour in history. Her 11th studio album, the Tortured Poets Department, may have been a misfire with critics, but still broke streaming records and dominated the charts; she was Spotify’s most-streamed artist globally this year. The Eras Tour wrapped last weekend in Vancouver with more than $2bn in ticket sales from more than 10 million attendees – more than double the next all-time highest-grossing tour, in only 149 shows. She revealed that this year’s birthday was the ‘nicest’ one as she dominated the 2024 Billboards Music Awards. Taylor had been nominated for 17 categories.
Eminem
One of the best rappers in this world is Eminem and in 2024, the world got to witness his greatness once again with the release of his new album ‘The Death of Slim Shady.’ He was set to open the 2024 MTV VMAs with the first TV show performance from his latest album. This rapper has been nominated for VMS’ most iconic performance for his 2000 medley of ‘Real Slim Shady’ and ‘The Way I Am’, which included more than 100 look-alikes. He is currently with Peter Gabriel for the most VMA wins by a solo male artist in show history. Eminem could break that record with just one win this year. He also holds the record for most wins by a rap artist with 13 VMAs and is the second most nominated artist in VMAs history with 67 nods, trailing only Madonna with 71 nods.
Billie Eilish
Billie Eilish is wrapping up 2024 with a major honor, as the nine-time Grammy winner was named Apple Music’s 2024 Artist of the Year on Thursday (Nov. 21). Since day one, Apple Music has supported her music and artistry, and she is both honored and humbled to receive this recognition as Artist of the Year this many years into her career, Eilish said in a statement of the news. Going into 2025, she’s nominated for seven Grammys. Hit Me Hard and Soft is up for album of the year and best pop vocal album, while ‘Birds of a Feather’ snagged nominations for record of the year, song of the year, and best pop solo performance. In a recent interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, Chris Martin, the frontman of the iconic British band Coldplay, revealed that the group may retire from recording new music after their forthcoming 12th album. In 2021, Martin hinted at Coldplay's future, stating that the band would release their final album in 2025.
